Obviously this policy making thing is going really well. well I might as well give a preamble as to what I was planning to do.
Other than this rather empty forum existing, I moderate at one other. we have some idea of what the basic rules for a forum should be however we often find ourselves dealing with people that just seem to have nothing better to do than rebel against those they feel have some seat in power.
So there is this constant flow of bickering from people complaining about the moderators, the occasional permaban which isn't using any automated systems and the complaints that then stem from "Impartiality"( or the lack there of, take your pick)
What I wanted to do was create some "Simplified Rules", since the more complex they get, the more complex it gets to follow them.
So the usual are a implied:
- Forums owners while not owning the content that other people post, do however hold the right to make decisions about whether the material is appropriate to their forum. This means if they want to move things about or delete things, well in honesty it's what you expect of a functioning forum.
- No SPAM (If people want to advertise on a forum, they should perhaps ask the owner or webmaster what it costs to advertise)
- No Porn/Warez/illegal materials. (Simply websites are hosted on servers in particular countries, the webhost has to conform to laws which means they tend to make those that use them conform to laws to, which therefore has the knock on effect of asking the end-user to conform to laws. If you don't agree with conforming to law, then you really have issues that I and my website can't help you with)
This of course means no linking to such websites either from images or URL's.
- No Racism, Sexism, provoction of Crime and other assorted Hate Speech. (While some love to preach about their Free Speech, they tend to neglect that some of what they Preach is wrong and the fact where they preach it, isn't free. )
This of course means no linking to such websites either from images or URL's.
- No Flaming/Trolling. This is when people disagree and it gets to such a point that a poster follows round another poster to always dig comments at them or just undermine their views.
- Administrators word is final. Yes it's true administrators have the Totalitarian regime squared away pretty tightly, and you'll either love and respect them or just learn to revere their status.
