Default Configuring XBOX360 to work through Orange Livebox (E-400)

First off, I don't have one of these particular modem/routers so what information is contained here is speculative at best, however I'm writing this to try and help a gaming friend who's having some problems with his NAT being "Moderate".

I'm not going to plagiarise this information, so I'll point out where I found some info, it's actually something a PS3 user put together.
http://community.eu.playstation.com/...thread.id=4717

The following are the important bits for setting up a Wireless Connection for XBOX 360's on a DMZ.

Quote:
* To access the routers configuration page.

- Open up a internet browser page and type in http://192.168.1.1
- Or you should have a "Configure The Livebox" icon on their Desktop.

-On the page you should click "Access To Configuration Pages..." Its a long orange link on the main page.

-It will ask you for a User Name and Password.

*Username - admin
*Password - admin

(It is case sensitive)

Wireless Channel:

If you can connect fine, but keeps getting disconnected all the time, it could be, that the wireless channel you are using has too much traffic or interfeirance on it. To change the wireless channel go to......

Security (Left of the router page) > Wireless Connection > Change Channel to 6
I was on channel 1 by default, when i scanned with my PSP it was 35% signal strength. Changed to channel 6 and got 100%.

*Please note, that if you have any other wireless devices connected to the router, i.e Laptop PC etc, it may disconnect them from the internet. If you need to do this, ask them to do it with Orange as it can affect the connection. If you are hardwired into their PC or Laptop, it shouldnt affect it.!
If you find that speech is getting dropped while on Xbox live or that you are getting lag, changing the channel can occasionally fix it... or make it worse if you pick the wrong channel.

UPnP:

The Livebox usually has this enabled as default, if this needs to be checked, go to........

Configuration (Left of the homepage) > Advanced > UPnP > The UPnP button will say UPnP Disable or Enable.
Don't be a div! If the UPnP button says UPnP Disable that means its enabled, and vice versa. Again, if the option is disabled you need to enable this with Orange as it can affect the Connection on your home network.
UPnP is used by XBOX 360's, if the router is a truly UPnP compliant router, then your XBOX 360 should be able to automatically configure ports to open when your programs require them. Sometimes however some Games aren't programmed to use this to their advantage, which means you can get problems where they don't open ports.

It's best to have this ON by default, but don't use any PORT FORWARDING rules since THEY WILL OVERRIDE UPnP.

DMZ:

If a DMZ needs to be enabled, it could'nt be simpler. First, here is the DHCP Range of the Livebox.~

DHCP Start - 192.168.1.9
DHCP End - 192.168.1.200

It is a weird one but you can set the DMZ to anything out of this range. Any thing from....

192.168.1.2 TO 192.186.1.8
OR
192.168.1.201 TO 192.168.1.254

BUT NOT 192.168.1.162 as this is normally the COMPUTERS IP ADDRESS!!

Ok, so now you know the ranges, here is how to set the DMZ up....

Configuration > Advanced > Router > DMZ Setup > Next to the "Configure DMZ on this Computer" Button enter the DMZ IP adress, then click the "Configure DMZ on this Computer.
Once the page refreshes, it should confirm with you that the DMZ is enabled on the router, and another button will appear that says "Remove DMZ". If a DMZ needs to be enabled, the firewall setting on the router must be set to low before hand, this has been covered earlier on.
This is the best method for an XBOX 360, setting it up to be in a DMZ. DMZ's require you to pick a Static IP (One thats not in the NAT's allocation range) and this has to be noted in the Router's configuration as well as be assigned to your XBOX.

To assign it to your XBOX you'll have to go to System Settings > Network Settings > Configure network. Note the IP Settings that are "AUTOMATIC".

Change IP SETTINGS To MANUAL. enter the static IP used for the DMZ, use the SUBNET MASK that was noted (should be 255.255.255.0) and the GATEWAY should be the one that was noted too. (i.e. 192.168.1.1)
